We have planted over 900 trees in our food forest throughout the last 4 years to the benefit of the Ecuador wildlife: birds, bees, animals and humans alike. This is only the beginning of our reforestation program.
Manabi has been suffering from the effects of deforestation since the last 30 years. In the last few years, it has been intensifying rapidly due to political and economical reasons.
Today, trees are being cut down mainly for exportation, corn and pasture land.
Rivers are running dry, native fauna and flora are disappearing.
We have a small land of 11 hectares (27 acres) and we barely touched the surface of it but the long term reforestation project, with your help, is to buy more land nearby, put it in the name of the Pinguino Tree Foundation (not registered yet) and plant trees on a great surface.
For now, we are just happy with the small scale of reforesting our land and buying ancient trees from neighbors so that they cannot be cut.
